October 23, 2019 San Antonio Workshop
Workshop Goals: There are not enough training opportunities that cater to the professional development needs of the cost estimating and cost analysis community. ICEAA hosts professional development opportunities all over the country, and there are even international opportunities. This is an opportunity for broader participation by members of the cost estimating analysis community from the South-Central US. We also hope to attract some local interest in the annual conference to be held in San Antonio next May.

Message from the South Central Region Director – September 2019
Member Outreach: The Lone Star Chapter will host a Professional Networking Social this Wednesday, October 2 starting at 6 pm at Los Vaqueros in the Stockyards. The address is 2629 North Main Street Fort Worth, Texas 76164. Non-members and guests are encouraged to attend. Please drop an email to an officer to indicate your interest in attending, but please join us anyway even if you forget to.
Professional Development Workshop: As we have done in the past our Lone Star Chapter is planning to conduct another professional development workshop. This time it will be in San Antonio to create an opportunity for broader participation from our region and to attract some local interest in the annual conference to be held in San Antonio next May. The date is Wednesday, October 23. The venue is La Quinta 11155 West Loop 1604 North, San Antonio, TX, US, 78254. The format is expected to be 8 or 9 sessions packed into an 8 am to 5 pm agenda. There is no charge for this event. We are soliciting applications and abstracts for presentations as well as interest in participating. Topics of relevance to the Region 6 cost estimating and analysis profession might cover professional development, best practices, affordability, software, tools, proposal management, contract negotiation skills or risk analysis for example. Please contact a chapter officer if you have questions or you are interested in collaborating with others on a presentation or if you are not in the DFW area and would like some extra advice on your participation plans. Registration information and specific presentation information is forthcoming.
Elections: Talk to one of the current chapter officers about the opportunity to take a leadership role in the Lone Star Chapter. You will get out of it what you put into it. Positions involve a two-year term starting 1 January 2020. Nominations will be accepted through October 15 and electronic voting will be conducted from October 16 to November 15. Results will be announced December 1st.
Purpose: ICEAA is the opportunity for you to associate with other professionals whose careers involve cost estimating or cost analysis skills valued across government and commercial entities and many industries including design, manufacturing, aerospace, defense, transportation, software, information technology, oil and gas, construction, product support, consulting and more. If you are a new professional, you can get a jump start into what skills and techniques could be added to your repertoire. If you are a seasoned professional, what better way to stay in touch with current developments in your field or just get a refresher on some advanced skills you haven’t used in a while? You might be one of the first to figure out how concepts or innovations for products and services in another industry can be leveraged into products and services in your own. You may be a professional who enjoys a supportive environment that fosters research and analysis along with the opportunity to present it to your peers for feedback and recognition. If you love what you do, you may enjoy challenging yourself to engage in new endeavors and develop new applications just for the satisfaction of knowing you are not standing still. The most awesome thing about a career in cost estimating and analysis is the variety of projects and assignments you can find yourself on and the career opportunities those projects and assignments can lead you into. Take advantage of this opportunity to associate with other passionate professionals like yourself.
If you are interested in becoming more involved in chapter operations or International ICEAA operations, please contact one of the individuals above. Currently there are opportunities to support International ICEAA Strategic Planning and Outreach. Neither of these opportunities are huge commitments as the amount to an occasional teleconference and the opportunity to provide input. Any participation at all would be hugely appreciated!
