Audit Calls on GSA to Increase Oversight of Procurement
(FedWeek) An inspector general audit has called on the GSA to increase its oversight of procurement by the agency, saying an internal control system is falling short in identifying problems and ensuring that corrective actions are taken. GSA’s procurement management review division, or PMRD, monitors and evaluates GSA acquisition programs and produces reports that may require contracting activities to produce a corrective action plan in response. New Pentagon memo tightens non-commercial tech procurement rules in line with executive order
(Breaking Defense) The Pentagon issued a new memo calling for acquisition leaders across the Defense Department to adopt practices that will help ensure the proliferation of commercial technology. The memo, released Tuesday, outlines ways the DoD should implement President Donald Trump’s April 15 executive order that mandated federal agencies procure commercially available products rather than non- commercial products to the “maximum extent practicable.” The memo noted that Pentagon procurement sometimes calls for non-commercial products rather than commercial counterparts due to its “unique warfighting mission demand.” Read More
The Long-Term Budget Outlook Under Alternative Scenarios for the Economy and the Budget
(Congressional Budget Office) The Congressional Budget Office projects that if current laws governing revenues and spending generally remained unchanged, federal debt held by the public, boosted by large deficits, would increase from 100 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2025 to 156 percent of GDP in 2055—exceeding any previously recorded level and on track to increase further. The federal budget deficit would remain large by historical standards in relation to GDP over the next 30 years, driving up federal debt. Read More
The hunt for mysterious ‘Planet Nine’ offers up a surprise
