Executive Order Seeks to Streamline Federal Procurement Through FAR Reform
(ExecutiveGov) President Donald Trump signed on Tuesday an executive order directing his administration to amend the Federal Acquisition Regulation, or FAR, as part of efforts to streamline the federal procurement process and remove barriers to doing business with the government. Within 180 days, the EO directs the administrator of the Office of Federal Public Procurement Policy, or OFPP, to work with the Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council, heads of agencies and procurement officials to amend FAR to ensure that the regulation contains only provisions required by statute or essential to sound procurement while protecting national security or economic interests. Concerns Continue Even as Agencies Adapt Generative AI, Says Report
(FEDweek) Concerns about the potential risks of generative artificial intelligence continue even “federal agencies and Congress have been exploring GenAI uses, including for office tasks such as creating and summarizing content, writing speeches, and drafting bills,” says a report for Congress. “Despite the impressive abilities of GenAI, its rapid growth has raised concerns and discussions about managing potential risks. For example, the tendency of GenAI to produce incorrect or misleading results, sometimes referred to as confabulation or hallucinating, might lead to the tools generating and amplifying misinformation or being used to create and spread disinformation,” the Congressional Research Service said. MITRE Issues Guidance for Adopting Open Architecture Defense Systems
(ExecutiveGov) MITRE is urging the Department of Defense to adopt new architectural principles that enable interoperability, adaptability and future-proofing in response to evolving battlefield needs. The not-for-profit organization on Tuesday published a strategy to guide the Pentagon’s approach to acquiring and implementing new capabilities. MITRE, in the strategy, highlighted the modular open systems approach, or MOSA, as a way to accelerate the development and deployment of technologies. MOSA decomposes systems into their critical functions with standardized interfaces and are capable of working together. Read More
Space Force’s new ‘warfighting framework’ says ‘space superiority’ is basis of US military power
(Breaking Defense) A new Space Force document detailing its “warfighting” role not only claims the achievement of “space superiority” as the service’s own raison d’etre, but also asserts that control of space is the central foundation of US military power. “Space superiority is not only a necessary precondition for Joint Force success but also something for which we must be prepared to fight. Gained and maintained, it unlocks superiority in other domains, fuels Coalition lethality, and fortifies troop survivability. It is therefore the basis from which the Joint Force projects power, deters aggression, and secures the homeland,” writes Chief of Space Operations Gen.
