SUMMARY:SoCal Chapter Webinar: Moneyball Metrics: Exploring Power BI Through MLB Player Analysis
DESCRIPTION:Moneyball Metrics: Exploring Power BI Through MLB Player Analysis\nFebruary 27\, 2026 | 11:30am-12:30pm (pacific)\nWith recent enterprise access to Power BI\, the DoD Cost community has a powerful new tool at its disposal. This presentation examines not only how cost analysts have utilized Power BI over recent years but will also explore its potential usages and innovative ways to leverage its capabilities within the program office. Through the lens of the MLB\, we’ll explore Power BI’s capabilities\, with player salaries\, contract durations\, team locations\, and conferences representing key elements of Defense Acquisition. This data will be transformed into dynamic dashboards\, providing valuable support for cost estimating and program management by visualizing labor rates\, contract costs\, and more. As cost analysts\, our role is to provide decision-makers with accurate\, actionable insights. Power BI’s capabilities offer a shift from traditional tools enhancing the effectiveness and adaptability of decision support and database management. Ultimately\, this presentation aims to inspire new and creative approaches to data visualization and analysis. \nSpeakers: \nSam Lepordo is a Cost Analyst at Quantech Services with over 3 years of dedicated experience in DoD cost estimating. He has supported multiple Ground Based Command and Control IT systems within the Air Force. Sam grew up in Massachusetts and graduated from the University of New Hampshire with degrees in Finance and Information Systems & Business Analytics. \nWith a strong foundation and enthusiasm for Mathematics and Statistics\, Meghan Greathouse earned a B.S. in Mathematics and a Data Analytics Certification from Middle Georgia State University. Currently\, she brings two and a half years of experience as a Senior Cost Analyst\, specializing in cost and data analysis for the Distributed Common Ground Systems (DCGS) Program within the Air Force Department of Defense. Outside of work\, she cherishes spending time with her husband and two children\, enjoying sports\, family activities\, and all things related to her daughters’ interests. \nRSVP at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/ZGkh3n4uSfeyRi9uO1DSmw

SUMMARY:WCA Chapter Virtual Luncheon: A Fool with an AI Tool…is still a Fool
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the next Washington Capital Area Chapter (WCAC) International Cost Estimating and Analysis Association (ICEAA) Luncheon: \nSUBJECT: ICEAA WCAC Virtual Luncheon: A Fool with an AI Tool…is still a Fool\nPRESENTED BY: Dan French (Cobec) and Carol Dekkers (Quality Plus Technologies)\nTIME: March 11\, 2026 | 12:00 to 1:00pm Eastern \nSUMMARY:\nThis presentation will explore the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in sizing software projects using the International Function Point User Group (IFPUG) function points methodology and software estimates. As organizations increasingly seek efficiency and accuracy in project estimation\, AI offers transformative potential by automating the function point counting process. By leveraging machine learning algorithms\, AI can analyze historical project data\, identify patterns\, and predict function point counts with enhanced precision. This not only streamlines the estimation process but also reduces human error and bias. \nAdditionally\, AI-driven tools can provide insights into project complexity and resource allocation\, enabling more informed decision-making. The synergy between AI and IFPUG function points represents a significant advancement in software estimating practices\, facilitating better project planning and management. Ultimately\, this approach enhances the overall reliability of software project estimations\, paving the way for successful project delivery in an increasingly dynamic technological landscape. \nSpeakers:\nDan French has 25+ years in a variety of IT roles including analyst\, developer\, tester\, project management\, software metrics and software estimation.  He’s developed CMMi and ISO compliant process improvement and software estimation processes.  \nDan holds a B.S. in Economics from Virginia Tech and holds certification as a Lifetime CFPS\, PMP and CSM.  He’s served as the Certification Director on the IPFUG Board of Directors and is currently the Partnership & Events Director.   Previously he served as the Chair of the Certification Committee & Functional Software Sizing Committee (FSSC). He’s  authored numerous white papers/presentations on software metrics\, Agile\, and estimation. \nCarol Dekkers is founder of Quality Plus Technologies\, Inc. and works with clients who want to succeed with software measurement\, estimation\, and project management. Carol is a frequent presenter at ICEAA and other international conferences and she holds credentials from ICEAA\, IFPUG\, the Project Management Institute\, and the Green Project Management foundation. \nMicrosoft Teams meeting \nJoin: https://teams.microsoft.com/meet/27127133438689?p=Ok6WuUC0JRKfphGEbA \nMeeting ID: 271 271 334 386 89 \nPasscode: 3pD9pX6P \nNeed help? | System reference \nDial in by phone \n+1 929-352-1792\,\,332145873# United States\, New York City \nFind a local number \nPhone conference ID: 332 145 873#
