SUMMARY:First International Boehm Forum on COCOMO® and Systems and Software Cost Modeling
DESCRIPTION:The Boehm family has established the Boehm Center for Systems and Software Engineering (BCSSE) to carry on the Barry Boehm legacy of research in the areas of system and software development practices and the evolution of these practices as well as the estimation of cost/schedule for all things related to software\, systems\, and system of systems (SoS) engineering and development. This year’s Forum will continue with the virtual format that seemed to work well last year\, and it is scheduled for Nov 9-10\, 2022. This year’s Forum focus is on Barry Boehm’s cost modeling legacy and to highlights Barry’s foundational contributions to cost modeling related to software and systems engineering and how these\ncontributions have evolved over time. Specific topics of interest for this year include: \n\nHow software and systems engineering cost modeling has evolved over time in various domains\nRecent trends in software/system/system of systems engineering approaches and techniques\nRecent software/system/system of systems capability development game-changers\nImpacts of tools to improve/enhance/automate system and software engineering\, development\, or associated quality on current cost models/cost modeling techniques\nNew or modified size cost drivers to estimate software development effort in response to changing development processes and environments/tools\nImpact of software/capability development game-changers on effort and schedule and any associated changes to effort/schedule estimation algorithms\nApproaches to accommodate recent software/capability development game-changers in current cost models\nEnhancements to current cost models to support\n\nVirtual collaboration\, engineering\, and development\nDevOps/DevSecOps development\nWeb services development\nParallel Agile development\nReuse\nSizing of security portion of product code\nMigration of software systems to one or more system of systems (SoS)\nCapability cost/schedule estimation in a system of systems environment\nManagement of SoS engineering\n\n\n\nBoehm Center for Systems and Software Engineering | https://boehmcsse.org | (818) 442-3305

SUMMARY:Design to Cost Applied to a Fictional Product Support Center Case Study
DESCRIPTION:Design to Cost Applied to a Fictional Product Support Center Case Study\nHosted by the OEM COG and ICEAA Region 6\n \nThe Design to Cost methodology has long been touted as an essential element of an affordable product development undertaking however explanations tend to be a bit on the philosophical side leaving audiences wondering how to approach the specifics of their own applications. This presentation intentionally avoids the philosophical aspects and focuses on the specific steps that might be taken in an illustrative\, albeit fictional\, design to cost example for the design and offering of product support center. Pertinent content from the cost estimating body of knowledge provides a foundation to build upon. \nSpeaker: John W. Deem \nJohn Deem is a business analyst for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics with over 30 years of experience in cost estimating\, cost modeling and affordability analysis for military aircraft both on the industry proposal side and the government procurement side. He has been a longtime member of ICEAA and its predecessor organizations for over 30 years as well. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering from the University of Missouri in Colombia and a master’s degree in business administration from Texas Christian University. John holds a CCE/A© certification.
